Two children killed in Kerrville drag racing accident

KERRVILLE, TX – Two children were killed and eight other people were hospitalized following a drag racing accident at Kerrville-Kerr County Airport, KRGV reports. 

The accident occurred Saturday afternoon at an organized event called “Airport Race Wars 2” that attracted thousands of spectators. One of the drivers lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a crowd of spectators. Two boys, aged 8 and 6, were killed in the crash. Eight other people were injured, including a 46-year-old woman listed in critical condition. None of the other injuries are considered to be life-threatening.

Although the course was protected by barriers, these did not extend past the finish line. The driver was approaching the end of the track when the accident occurred.

No information is currently available on why the driver lost control.
