SMITH CO., TX – A crash involving two semis and six passenger vehicles injured more than a dozen people Saturday in northwest Smith County.

The accident occurred around 4 p.m. on I-20 westbound near Lindale, which is about 14 miles northwest of Tyler.

Police haven’t yet commented on the cause of the injury collision, which caused diesel and oil spills and closed the interstate for more than two hours.

Medics transported a total of 17 people to area hospitals with injuries of unknown severity.

Officials urged motorists to seek alternate routes while crews worked to clear the fuel spills and attend to the injured parties.
