TYLER, TX – A high school senior was killed in a crash that authorities believe may have been caused by an intoxicated driver on Broadway Avenue in Tyler on Friday night, according to CBS 19 News.

The crash happened in the 2800 block of S Broadway Ave near Alpine Drive, after the driver of a black Chevrolet Silverado, identified as 24-year-old Jason Charles, rear-ended a white Dodge Ram.

The impact sent the Ram, driven by a 17-year-old senior at Tyler Legacy High School, rolling into a nearby tree.

The teenager was taken to the hospital, where on Sunday she was declared deceased.

Charles was taken to the hospital, then later taken into police custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. He could be facing possible upgraded intoxication manslaughter charges following the death of the teen.
