Narrative

ROUND ROCK, TX – A woman died Wednesday morning when an Amtrak train struck her vehicle along the train tracks in Round Rock.

The incident happened around 11 a.m. on the tracks that run along the intersection of McNeil Road and the I-35 frontage road.

Police say that for unknown reasons, an SUV entered the tracks while the warning bells for the train were ringing. An Amtrak train carrying 46 passengers struck the SUV, killing the driver at the scene.

Authorities identified the deceased as 76-year-old Peggy Dreher of Round Rock.

None of the train passengers were hurt in the accident.

Officials closed roadways in the area while crews worked to investigate and clear the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
