1 person dead in fiery 18-wheeler crash on I-10 in Orange

ORANGE, TX – One person was killed in a fiery 18-wheeler collision on I-10 in Orange on Monday night, according to 12 News Now.

The crash happened near mile marker 876 and the Womack Road exit at about 9:10 p.m., as a 2016 Peterbilt commercial vehicle was disabled on the shoulder of the highway.

The driver of a 2016 Hyundai Sonata reportedly failed to control the speed of his vehicle before he slammed into the back of the truck. The impact sent the Sonata across all lanes of the highway and into the concrete median, where it overturned and caught fire.

The driver of the Sonata, who has not yet been identified due to severe burn injuries, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver, a 64-year-old man from Stony Point, New York, was not hurt in the crash.

Authorities continue to investigate the collision.
