UPDATE: Driver identified after fatal rollover wreck on I-10 in central El Paso

EL PASO, TX — A 29-year-old man died early last Saturday after his SUV collided with a trailer on Interstate 10 in central El Paso, reports KTSM.

The El Paso Police Department said the fatal crash happened on the eastbound lanes near Geronimo Drive, at about 1:30 a.m.

An early investigation shows the man was driving an SUV at a high rate of speed and passing multiple vehicles on the interstate. At one point, he struck the back wheels of a trailer that was attached to another vehicle.

The impact of the crash caused the speeding driver to lose control of the SUV as it slammed into the center barrier and overturned, coming to rest on the emergency lane on the freeway’s opposing side.

Officials said the driver of the SUV died as a result of his injuries.

The interstate was shut down in both directions during the emergency response and investigation.

No further details have been shared at this time.
