2-year-old dead, father and infant injured after car crashes into bayou

HITCHCOCK, TX – A toddler was killed, and his father and 4-month old sibling were hospitalized after their vehicle crashed into a bayou in the Hitchcock area this weekend, according to information from KHOU.

The collision occurred in the 6300 block of Delany Road near the bridge over Highland Bayou, north of Highway 6, at about 9:30 a.m. Saturday, after the driver of a dark passenger vehicle crashed off the side of the roadway. The vehicle then went down the side of the embankment and overturned into the bayou, where it landed upside-down.

A 2-year-old boy was pronounced dead after the crash.

The boy’s father, who was driving the vehicle, was taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.

A 4-month-old infant passenger was taken into an intensive care unit at the hospital.

As authorities were responding to the crash, the driver of an SUV collided with a Hitchcock Police officer’s patrol vehicle.

The SUV driver and the officer sustained minor injuries during the secondary crash.

The incidents remain under investigation at this time.
