6-year-old stepping off school bus hit and killed by driver in NW Houston

HOUSTON, TX – A 6-year-old stepping off a school bus was fatally struck by a driver in northwest Houston yesterday afternoon, according to KTRK.

The crash happened in the 9600 block of W Montgomery Road near the Garden City Apartment Complex at around 5 p.m., after a 6-year-old first-grader at Aldine ISD was dropped off by the school bus.

The child was crossing the street when she was then struck by the driver of a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

The child was taken to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The driver remained at the scene and has cooperated with authorities, who do not believe he was under the influence when the crash occurred. Police are hoping to use phone records to determine if he was using a cell phone when the accident happened.

The investigation continues at this time.

The child’s family has started a GoFundMe page in order to help raise money for funeral expenses.
