DEER PARK, TX – A man was fatally impaled by a steel beam after he crashed into the back of a semi-truck in Deer Park last week, according to KTRK.

The crash happened on the feeder road for State Highway 225 and Underwood at about 1:20 a.m. Tuesday.

A semi-truck was parked on the side of the road with its hazard lights on as its driver was going to sleep in the cabin. The driver of a black, four-door Infiniti then collided with the back of the trailer, which was carrying a load of steel beams. The steel beam, known as rebar, went through the windshield, impaling the driver.

The driver of the sedan, identified only as a Hispanic man in his 30s or 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He may have fallen asleep or experienced a medical emergency just before impact, according to investigators.

The truck driver was not hurt and has cooperated with investigators.
