Elderly woman dead after car crashes down embankment in downtown Houston

HOUSTON, TX – An elderly woman was killed and two people were injured after a vehicle went down the side of an embankment and caused a collision in downtown Houston on Wednesday afternoon.

According to KHOU, the crash happened near the intersection of Hamilton and Pierce Street near I-69 and I-45 at about 2 p.m., when the driver of a black Ford Fusion allegedly ran a red traffic light.

The driver, a 63-year-old woman, crashed into a Chevrolet Malibu being driven by a 31-year-old woman.

The Fusion continued, going through a fence and then down the freeway embankment, before finally colliding with a concrete barrier.

An 85-year-old passenger in the Fusion was taken to the hospital, where she later was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Fusion was hospitalized for the treatment of non-critical wounds.

The other driver was treated for minor injuries at the scene of the crash.
